Todd is Principal Bassoon of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO)
He began lessons on the mini-bassoon at the age of seven years, progressing to full-size bassoon, with Selena Orwin, at the Pettman National Junior Academy of Music.
Todd has been principal bassoonist in the NZSO National Youth Orchestra, an NZSO Fellowship student and freelanced with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
Todd graduated from the Royal College of Music, London in 2016, with a BMus (Hons) First Class degree, as a Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Scholar supported by a Douglas and Hilda Simmonds Award.
He was awarded the Tagore Gold Medal for outstanding musical contribution to the Royal College of Music, which was presented to him by HRH The Prince of Wales. His bassoon professors were Andrea de Flammineis (Orchestra of the Royal Opera House), Joost Bosdijk (LSO) and Julie Price (BBCSO). Since graduating, Todd has returned to the RCM to give classes and mentoring sessions.
Todd has played as guest principal with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, including their 2017 BBC Proms performance, and as an extra with the LSO. He has taken part in the Aldeburgh Winds, Britten–Pears Young Artist Programme UK and toured for Chamber Music New Zealand’s Regional Series with the Mimosa Ensemble. In April 2018 Todd performed the Mozart Bassoon Concerto with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
