Katie plays with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and before that was Section Principal Flute of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra
Katie Zagórski graduated with first class honours from the Australian National University School of Music before taking up a scholarship position at the Australian National Academy of Music. She has been a finalist in the New Zealand Flute Competition, the ABC Young Performer of the Year Award, a winner of the Victorian Flute Guild Competition and a winner of the Australian International Flute Competition.
In addition to an active chamber music and solo career, Katie frequently plays with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, Adelaide and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, the Opera Australia Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and most recently as guest principal with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed concerti with Orchestra Victoria and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, has twice been an artist in residence at The Banff Centre, Canada, and was the sole Australian competitor for the Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition, Denmark, 2010.
In 2011, Katie was a Sydney Symphony Fellow which saw her collaborating and performing alongside many of her musical heroes on the Sydney Opera House stage. In 2012 she was guest Associate Principal Flute of Queensland Symphony Orchestra and also spent three months playing in masterclasses, summer schools, and chamber music festivals all over Europe. Katie has been soloist for the Cologne Chamber Philharmonie on their tour of Australia, playing both piccolo and flute concerti, and enjoyed performing various chamber music works with the woodwind principals of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
The beginning of 2014 saw Katie embarking upon her 2nd Winter Music Residency at The Banff Centre which was assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body. From Banff she moved to Melbourne for the role of Associate Principal Flute of Orchestra Victoria before cutting that short to assume the role as Section Principal Flute of Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
2016 saw Katie happily join the ranks of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra flute section, and sunny Hobart has kept her there since!
