Kate has been a member of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra since 1987
Kate is originally from Hobart and graduated from the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music Performance. After being awarded a University Post Graduate Award she relocated to Sydney to further her studies, freelance and take up a position with the ABC Sinfonia in 1986.
In the same year, she was a semi -finalist in the ABC Young Performers Competition in Perth and shortly after accepted the position of Second and Bass Clarinet with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra. She has been a member of The Queensland Symphony Orchestra and QPO since 1987.
She has appeared as guest artist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and The Australian Ensemble and has been active teaching, mentoring and performing Chamber Music in Queensland, Tasmania and Sydney throughout her career.
As Lecturer of Clarinet at the University of Queensland since 2015 and an enthusiastic teacher of students spanning all ages and backgrounds she aspires to inspire, motivate, share knowledge and experiences, and nurture a passion and love for classical music.
Career highlights include the many orchestral tours both regional and international, initiatives and performances as a member of the eclectic Cabaret Group X-Collective, solo opportunities with QPO and in 2011 as the recipient of the Ann Hoban Fellowship extensive study and travel overseas.
