James is Principal Clarinet of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra
James has recently started as Principal Clarinet of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, having lead a busy career in London as both Co-Principal of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Principal Clarinet of the Academy of St Martin in-the-Fields.
As well as playing as a guest principal with other orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia and London Symphony Orchestra, James plays chamber music with Joshua Bell in the Academy, and groups such as London Sinfonietta, London Conchord Ensemble, Irish Chamber Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Soloists. He has also performed concertos in London and all over the world with orchestras such as the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
James is a Clarinet Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and gives masterclasses, as well as orchestral and chamber coaching sessions in some of the world’s best music institutions, including the Royal College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and for the educational departments in the London Symphony Orchestra and Academy of St Martin in-the-Fields.
